March 4, 2026| Political leaders across the divide have been urged to unite in support of President William Ruto’s administration, which has prioritized the transformation of education in Kenya.
Speaking in Malava constituency during a visit to Mayuge Primary School in West Kabras ward, Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Ambassador Julius Bitok, commended the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the sector. He highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) as a key driver of this progress.
Amb. Bitok noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration has given education its “true meaning” by executing historic reforms. He pointed to the recruitment of 100,000 teachers in a short period—a figure surpassing previous employment records—and the increase in the education budget from Ksh. 500 billion to Ksh. 790 billion annually. This financial boost, he explained, is critical to accommodating the rising enrolment rates in institutions across the country.
“Just to ensure that this government takes education very seriously, we recently heeded the President’s directive to achieve a 100% transition rate for Grade 10 learners,” said Amb. Bitok. “With the assistance of National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), we were able to realize this target. These are just some of the many things this government is doing to ensure Kenyan children can access education.”
The PS revealed that the government plans to recruit more teachers soon to address current shortages. He called on local communities to rally behind the administration, emphasizing that education is a universal right that requires collective effort. “This government has given education first priority. As Kenyans, we should support the leadership so that he can execute his mandate fully,” he added.

Amb. Bitok’s visit to Mayuge Primary School was prompted by a report from Malava MP David Ndakwa, who confirmed that several classrooms had been condemned by public health officials. The PS assessed the situation firsthand, and in a significant boost to the school, Ksh. 5 million was allocated for the construction of new classrooms. The funds aim to provide a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils.
“We are happy for this government led by our able President William Ruto for putting matters education close to his heart,” said MP Ndakwa. “As the people of Malava, we shall continue rallying behind him as he seeks his second tenure to complete the many education projects he has initiated across the country.”
Ndakwa assured residents that learning at Mayuge Primary would continue without interruption, thanking the national government for its commitment to development, particularly in education. “This generous donation will go a long way in ensuring that learning continues at this school without interference,” he added.
The event underscored the administration’s focus on inclusive education, with Amb. Bitok emphasizing that programs are being tailored to incorporate all learners, including those with special needs. The message was clear: with continued support from leaders and citizens alike, the future of education in Kenya is bright.
