April 24, 2026| Kahi Indimuli, an educationist and prominent figure in Vihiga County, has officially declared his intention to run for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. The announcement positions him as a potential successor to Governor Dr. Wilbur Otichilo, who is serving his second and final term.
Indimuli’s political ambitions emerged following his retirement from the education sector. According to his statement, residents initially encouraged him to contest the Sabatia parliamentary seat in 2022 but later persuaded him to aim for the county’s top leadership position to maximize development impact.
The aspiring governor recently represented President William Ruto at a ceremony where Ksh. 2.5 million was presented to five football clubs within Vihiga County. Each club—Vihiga United, Luanda Villa FC, Vihiga Queens, Bunyore Starlets, and Vihiga Sportiff FC—received Ksh. 500,000. The President also pledged to deliver two buses as requested by Indimuli.
During a presidential development visit to Mbale town last month, Indimuli stood out among local leaders when he requested the President’s support for the five clubs, a plea to which President Ruto responded favorably. At the cash presentation ceremony, Indumuli wore a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) cap and scarf, signaling his intention to seek the party’s ticket for the 2027 race.
Beyond club funding, Indimuli is credited with orchestrating the ongoing construction of the Ksh. 900 million Kidundu Stadium, designed to meet international standards. The facility is expected to serve as the home ground for Vihiga United FC while also providing a venue for talent development and football entertainment.

Indimuli has outlined several key priorities for his prospective administration. He plans to advocate for the expansion of the Chavakali–Kapsabet road, citing recent fatal accidents on the route. While acknowledging that the national government manages the road, he pledged to engage relevant authorities to secure widening and safety measures such as barriers.
On security, Indimuli identified Luanda as an area requiring urgent intervention, proposing the deployment of additional security personnel to enable business and investment to thrive. He also addressed the grievances of Community Health Promoters (CHPs), calling for consistent payment and collaboration between the national and county governments to support frontline medical providers at the grassroots level.
His development blueprint includes completing markets along the Serem–Chavakali road to relocate roadside traders from hazardous locations. He noted that designated markets would also improve revenue collection for the county. Indumuli further pledged transparent utilization of county resources.
In education, Indimuli proposed that student placement should be transferred from the Ministry of Education to an independent body, modeled after the Joint Admission Board at the university level, to ensure professional and unbiased placement.
The Vihiga gubernatorial seat is currently held by Governor Dr. Wilbur Otichilo on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, who succeeded Moses Akaranga. Indimuli’s central campaign theme is moving the county from opposition to government, a shift many residents believe will unlock development benefits.
