July 4, 2026| Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka (pictured) has received the prestigious Global Icon of Peace and Integrity Award, earning international recognition for his leadership in promoting good governance, peace-building and the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Lusaka received the award during the 2026 United Nations International Day of Parliamentarism celebrations held at Kibabii University.
The honour was presented by Her Eminence Ambassador Dr. Chinaza Jenny Ugbaja, Global Director of the International Forum for Peace, Integrity and Advancement (IFOPIA).
Presenting the award, Ambassador Ugbaja praised Lusaka for demonstrating ethical leadership, integrity in public service and a steadfast commitment to protecting women, girls and other vulnerable groups from Gender-Based Violence.
She said Bungoma County has become a model in promoting peace, accountability and coordinated responses to GBV through strong partnerships involving government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and community leaders.
Receiving the award, Lusaka dedicated the honour to the people of Bungoma, describing it as a recognition of the county’s collective efforts to build a peaceful, inclusive and accountable society.
“This recognition belongs to the people of Bungoma. It affirms that our deliberate investments in peace-building, integrity and the fight against Gender-Based Violence are making a meaningful impact. We remain committed to creating a safe, inclusive and just society for all,” said the governor.
He said the recognition would motivate his administration to intensify programmes aimed at preventing Gender-Based Violence, protecting human rights and improving service delivery.
Lusaka highlighted key interventions undertaken by his administration, including expanded community awareness campaigns, improved access to counselling and support services for GBV survivors, and stronger collaboration between county and national government agencies, security organs and non-governmental organisations in tackling GBV cases.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing policies that safeguard the rights of women, children and other vulnerable groups while promoting transparency, accountability and responsible governance.
The governor further emphasised that peace and integrity remain essential pillars of sustainable development, noting that economic growth and social transformation can only flourish in secure, stable and cohesive communities.
The Global Icon of Peace and Integrity Award recognises leaders and institutions that demonstrate exceptional commitment to ethical leadership, social justice, peace-building and public accountability.
The recognition further elevates Bungoma County’s profile on the international stage, reinforcing its growing reputation as a champion of peace, good governance and coordinated efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence.
Lusaka thanked IFOPIA for the honour and pledged to continue working with partners and stakeholders to build a county where every resident enjoys safety, dignity and equal opportunities.
The latest accolade adds to Bungoma County’s growing recognition as a devolved unit committed to good governance, social justice and sustainable development while affirming Governor Lusaka’s leadership in advancing peace and integrity beyond Kenya’s borders.
