June 12, 2026|Former Busia Governor Sospeter Odeke Ojaamong, whose name has increasingly been linked to the 2027 Busia Senate race, will tomorrow host a grand thanksgiving ceremony at his Okilidu home in Teso South Sub-County.

The former county boss said the event is aimed at appreciating residents of Okilidu, Otimong and Asiriam locations for standing with him throughout his political journey.

The ceremony will feature a community luncheon and is expected to draw hundreds of residents and leaders from across Busia County.

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma is among the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion.

Although political speculation has intensified over his next move, Ojaamong dismissed claims that Friday’s gathering will be used to unveil his 2027 ambitions.

Nonetheless, interest surrounding the veteran politician has continued to grow, with political observers closely watching whether he could throw his hat into the Busia Senate contest.

His recent association with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration has further fueled debate about a possible political comeback.

Ojaamong remains one of Busia’s most experienced politicians. He made history in 2013 by becoming the county’s first governor under the devolved system and successfully defended the seat in 2017 before leaving office in 2022 after completing two terms.

After his gubernatorial stint, he unsuccessfully contested the Teso South parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election.

A former teacher, Ojaamong previously served as Personal Assistant to Raila Odinga between 1995 and 2001 before joining elective politics.

He was elected Amagoro MP in 2002 and retained the seat in 2007, later serving as Assistant Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development during the Grand Coalition Government.

With 2027 political realignments already taking shape, Friday’s thanksgiving event is expected to offer Ojaamong an opportunity to reconnect with the grassroots — and perhaps keep alive growing whispers of a Busia Senate bid.
