September 27, 2026| Teachers will swap the classroom for the track on Sunday when athletes from the teaching fraternity converge at Kakamega Senior School for the regional World Teachers Day/TSC Run.
The competition, featuring 10km and 5km races, will be presided over by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Commissioner Dr Nicodemus Anyang (pictured) , who will flag off both races before leading a recognition ceremony for outstanding participants.
The run will take place simultaneously across eight TSC regions nationwide as part of celebrations marking 60 years of service to teachers and the education sector.
The celebrations will also include teachers’ awards, a free medical camp, and an exhibition where teachers will showcase innovations developed to improve learning and teaching.
Free medical services will be available at TSC offices and other designated centres across nine venues from September 27 to October 1, 2026.
The TSC said the celebrations are intended to recognise teachers’ achievements and highlight the teaching profession’s contribution to Kenya’s development.
The 60th anniversary celebrations are being held under the theme: “Standing with Teachers – 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping the Future.”
The regional run is expected to bring together teachers not only to compete for honours but also to promote fitness, wellness, and camaraderie within the teaching fraternity.
