June 1, 2026| Butere parliamentary aspirant Achero Mufuayia has launched the Emukangu Community Water Spring in Ebubala sub-location, Mutoma, a project aimed at improving access to clean water for hundreds of residents.
Speaking during the launch, Mufuayia said the rehabilitated water source is expected to benefit about 300 households and provide water for livestock, addressing a long-standing challenge that has forced residents to travel long distances in search of water.
He noted that access to clean and reliable water remains a major concern in many villages and called for greater investment in community-based development projects.
“This water spring represents a significant milestone in enhancing water accessibility in this village. It is expected to benefit around 300 households and support livestock, directly addressing the critical water issues that the community has long faced,” said Mufuayia.
He also emphasised the need for community ownership of the project to ensure its long-term sustainability.
“It is crucial that the community takes ownership of the water spring to ensure its sustainability for future generations,” he said.
During the event, Mufuayia criticised the leadership of Butere MP Tindi Mwale, alleging that residents continue to face challenges in accessing basic services, including clean water, good roads and electricity.
Local residents welcomed the project, saying it would ease the burden of fetching water and reduce the risk of water-borne diseases.
Village elder Fanuel Musula said the community had been concerned about the deteriorating state of the water source before its rehabilitation.
“We were worried about the condition of the water source, but this intervention has brought relief to the community,” he said.
Another resident, Joseph Nangoye, said locals had previously travelled up to five kilometres to fetch water after their main water source became unusable.
“We approached several leaders for help but did not receive assistance. The lack of clean water exposed residents to water-borne diseases. We are grateful that this project has now been completed,” said Nangoye.
Mufuayia, who is seeking the Butere parliamentary seat, urged residents to support his political bid, pledging to prioritise access to clean water, electricity connectivity and road improvements if elected.
With the spring now operational, residents expect improved access to clean water and reduced vulnerability to water shortages, particularly during dry seasons.
Community leaders also called for continued protection and maintenance of the facility to ensure it remains a reliable source of water for years to come.
The project is expected to support agriculture and livestock keeping, key economic activities in the area, while contributing to improved public health and livelihoods among local households.
