June 1, 2026| Principal Administrative Secretary in the Executive Office of the President, Arthur Amug Osiya, has called for accountability over KSh2 million donated by President William Ruto to women traders at Amagoro Market, following claims that only half of the money reached the intended beneficiaries.
Speaking during the homecoming celebration of retired headteacher Boaz William Ikomoli in Teso North, Osiya said he had received complaints from traders alleging that they were only given KSh1 million out of the KSh2 million that President Ruto donated during the official opening of the Amagoro ESP Market on March 18.
“Where is the KSh2 million that the President donated? Who consumed the money? I have noted your concerns,” Osiya said, promising to pursue the matter and establish what happened to the funds.
The donation was intended to help small-scale women traders boost their businesses and restock their enterprises.
Osiya also challenged residents to speak out on issues affecting their community instead of remaining silent, saying public accountability can only be achieved when citizens raise concerns openly.
The event also provided Osiya with a platform to advance his 2027 gubernatorial ambitions. He urged Busia residents dissatisfied with the current county administration to support his bid to succeed Governor Paul Otuoma.
“If you are disillusioned with the current leadership, take your identity cards and voter cards and follow one route called Osiya,” he told the gathering.
The PAS announced that he would embark on a series of grassroots engagements across the county, beginning in Changara, as he seeks to build support ahead of the next General Election.
“Starting tomorrow, I will begin meeting residents at the grassroots, beginning in Changara. Between June and July, I will camp here,” he said.
Former civic leader Charles Ramaina endorsed Osiya’s gubernatorial aspirations, describing him as a capable leader with the credentials to steer Busia County after 2027.
Meanwhile, Iteso Luko Ojim Clan Chairman Ishmael Orodi announced that he would not seek another term as a board member of Malaba Municipality when his tenure expires in two months. Orodi cited frustrations over stalled development projects, claiming funds allocated to the municipality remained unutilised.
The ceremony also celebrated the retirement of veteran educator Boaz William Ikomoli after 32 years in the teaching profession. Ikomoli, who served as headteacher in several schools across Teso North, announced his intention to contest the Malaba Central MCA seat in the 2027 elections.
In a symbolic gesture marking the end of his teaching career, Ikomoli received a cow from his wife, Zambenzia Ikomoli, while another was donated by the Board of Management of Kamuriai Comprehensive School.
