August 29, 2026| His Royal Highness Emorimor Papa Iteso III (pictured left) has held a high-level meeting with Kenyan Ambassador to Uganda Ababu Namwamba to discuss sports development and international talent pathways for Iteso youth.
The meeting, which took place in the lead-up to the fourth Coronation Anniversary celebrations scheduled for October 22–24, 2026, focused on leveraging sport as a vehicle for youth empowerment, cross-border collaboration, and professional exposure.
According to a statement from the Emorimor’s office, the discussions yielded concrete outcomes, including the facilitation of participation by international scouts and coaches from Spain, alongside representatives from leading football teams in Kenya and Uganda, at the upcoming Coronation Anniversary games in Amagoro.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Emorimor to create structured opportunities for young athletes within the Iteso community to access international sporting markets. The King has publicly indicated an ambition to have at least five players identified for potential placement in Spanish football programmes following the tournament.
Emorimor Papa Iteso III noted that the Iteso community possesses athletic talent but requires exposure and professional assessment to translate that potential into viable careers. He emphasised the importance of discipline, preparation, and participation in the scheduled games.
The sporting activities, which are expected to draw teams and individual players from across the Iteso community, will serve as a talent identification platform rather than solely a competitive event. Organisers have indicated that professional scouts will provide assessments and guidance to participants.
Clan chairpersons have been requested to support mobilisation efforts, while community leaders and parents have been encouraged to register talented young people for the games.
Retired Katakwa ACK Bishop John Okude commented on the initiative, describing the international dimension as a meaningful opportunity for youth development.
The main Coronation Anniversary celebrations will take place from October 22 to 24, 2026, in Amagoro, Busia County, with the sporting events forming part of the build-up activities.
